2012 Downieville Classic
Riding mountain bikes in California means making an annual pilgrimage to NorCal mountain bike Mecca, Downieville, CA. If there is anything that NorCal dirt foots train for; it is this event. Going into the race friends said comforting things to me like “I would almost rather ride a hard tail for this race.” Noticeably absent at the start line were hard tail bikes, except for the single speed racers who have a screw loose.
What have I learned in my first year in California? Drop that saddle, wide bars, short stem and get rad. Side knobs are for getting sideways. Don’t slam that stem.
